Phantom Drive (please help)

Post #1 by Tron » 3 years ago

I have been having troubles with the Windows 7 install lately. I don't remember when it started, but I have a phantom drive that pops up. It will pop up and go away and pop back up again, over and over. Really fast. Sometimes it causes a window to pop up saying that the drives needs to be formatted before I can use it, but if I try to format it, it wont work because it is not there long enough to be recognized. It is frustrating because I will be watching a movie or playing a game and it will pop up. It also seems to require a lot of the CPU when it happens. I look at Device Manager and do not see anything there. I really do not want to format the "C" drive, and re-install Windows to fix this, but I am getting desperate. :p cown:

I'm trying to avoid doing a format/re-install.... I looked at the hard drive, and it looks good. I have the boot sector and the main partition, and the "factory install partition.... :bsod:

That sounds bizarre.

How many drives total do you have "normally" show up, and what are their letters?

And what letter does the phantom drive take, if you are shown that?

I have the normal "C", "D" and after installing Alcohol 120 virtual drive "F"

"E" will sometimes start popping up, but goes away so fast I can't see any details. It just keeps coming and going really fast.
