Portable Apps List

Post #1 by JoeLouie » 11 years ago

I don't know how many other people will find this useful, but I don't know what I'd do without my portable apps. I have a 128MB USB drive with some portable apps on it that I always use at school. At my school you can't install anything on the PC's, and from what I've found, there are only a few computers that actually have MSN installed, so that's where the portable apps come in handy. Here are a few of the better portable apps that I've found, along with some other sites where you can find others.

Portable Winamp 5.1 w/ iPod support - http://z0rz.com/blog/archives/5

Portable Firefox 1.5.0.7 - http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

Portable Firefox 2.0 RC3 - http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/test

Miranda IM Portable - http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/miranda_portable

XMPlay - http://www.un4seen.com/
A portable Winamp-type media player. Takes up less screen and disk space than Winamp, and also has support for other skins, and plug-ins.

GIMP Portable - http://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/gimp_portable
A great freeware alternative to Adobe Photoshop. I mainly use it if I need to resize an image and don't have access to Photoshop.

PStart -
http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/pstart
A great utility for launching the portable apps. I have an autorun.inf file on my USB drive so when I plug it in, it automatically starts PStart, I just right click it in the system tray and launch whichever portable app I desire :)

I have a portable version of MSN 7 on my USB drive too, but I'll have to do some searching to see where I downloaded it from.

Feel free to add other portables apps and/or sites to the list!
