and you thought someone was going to make it before the Japanese
(when they have TONS of anime series based on mecha)

http://www.sakakibara-kikai.co.jp/products/other/LW.htm

though i cant read japanese; let alone pull up the characters (since i use unicode western, and japanese shows up in hollow block characters in this encoding) but there is a video

and from the looks of video and that swishie image; it looks like the foot never moves off the the ground, but it rises and moves forward; i first thought that it was pretty much locking and un-locking a series of casters (wheels on horizonal bearing so that it spins) so that the wheel rolls the foot/leg forward yet does not remove all the weight off of it; locks the wheels again and then does the same for the other foot

but thats just my theory

does look that way. It didn't look too stable in the video, like a big gust of wind could take it out, but damn cool none the less.

here's a translation of the text:

(The computer) with the control of support, movement of the robot itself front and back left and right, was made the foot operation by four pedals. With that, as for operation of the gun which is attached to substance left and right even when moving with the both hands operational. Just this even with big robot simply operational! Now presently, the development machine is only the substance, but while being close, robot opposition (the game), in actual ones...! ? As for the air shell the cushion ball data total height 3m 40cm gross weight 1000kgw embarkation staff 1 name power engine (250cc) handling 2 type of the り foot two foot walking drift speed speed per hour 1.5km/h on-board equipment air gun which is done (the cushion ball) right side Balkan type (6 departure) the left side shot cancer/gun type (6 departure) the cockpit monitor (change system) under and after before the substance

haha, looks like he can shoot bean bags out of the guns, cool

Yer that thing is awsome, and as you say it does look a little unstable, i reckon it would be quite hairy perched up there, its quite a way up.
By the sounds of it (the shooting video has audio) it also petrol driven, but then again that could have been just a compressor running to pump air for the cannons. Id like to have a closer look at just how the whole thing works.
cheers :) :)
