After swapping my sister's 10GB laptop drive out for a 40GB one i've had the old one sitting around for a few months until last week i saw some 2.5 inch USB2 HD caddies on ebuyer and ordered one.
I'm so glad i did, now i have a 10GB portable drive, so small it can fit in my pocket :D
Ran a HD tach before and the results are below, i know it'd not the best score but it'll do me for what i need it for.

Most of the reviews ive seen on USB2 drives the max speed acheivable was about 25Mb/s so the old 10GB HDD is doing ok :)
The worst thing is once ya get used to the speed of USB2 its hard transferring large files onto a slow old pc/laptop with a USB1.1 interface.
cheers :) :)

not that bad - considering its a 4200rpm
• Model Fujitsu MHM2100AT
• Capacity 10GB
• Interface IDE ATA/66
• Buffer Size 2048KB
• RPM 4200
• Average Seek Time 12Ms
• Average Latency 7Ms
• Reading Transfer Rate 16MB/s
• Max Operating Temperature 55C
• Accoustics Seek Mode 36 dB(A)
im sure you could INK another 5-10MB/s if you were to have a firewire enclosure
but that doesnt really make that much of a difference until you have 2+ devices on a firewire chain that that situation begins to matter
Gents,
I too got a Laptop Drive in a 2.5 inch USB 2 Case. It's only 12 Gigs (Gotta Find a Bigger Drive :nodhead2: that fits).
It's Great for moving Divx Movies and big chunks of Data about.

I've had 20GB 2.5" drive in a USB2/Firewire enclosure for a couple years now, very handy

Definately, the 128MB flash drive just wasn't cutting it anymore, with the size of drivers it was full after the set for my system alone. I have all the major drivers on this HD, my projects, and any utils i'll ever need.
