happy to report that this post comes from windows xp 64bit.
ati drivers are far from user friendly, but that so far has been my only issue.
of course, gaming will be another issue altogether i bet.

yes please report back with your gaming findings, do things like steam work under XP64bit? I really have no idea of the advantages/disadvantages of a 64bit OS.
cheers :) :)

Think i will wait for about another 6 month when software and drivers are out and up to date and running ok before i take the leap...

that's not a bad idea. as of now, hardware support is very limited, just ask analogue.
games are hit and miss, and software is miss. it's new and to be expected....anyone remember the 16-32bit fiasco?

yep i formatted a perfectly good 32bit install full of games only to find that VIAs RAID drivers are 8 months old and don't work with the x64 RTM release (for some).
I'm gonna reinstall 32bit, and create partitions for x64 and wait for VIA to get of their arses and update their driver set beore i install again.

at the rate I am going, looks like I will not make it to the land of 64bit.
I think I will be happy with my old amd 2700+ and 3200+ processors for a long time.
even if I try to upgrade. lol. I will not live long enough to test them out. my wife will have my head. lol

Ripper soon you'll be able to upgrade quite cheaply for a lot more performance once the sempr0n socket 939 chips are released (they may have been already on the quiet but i can't source any over here).
