as some of you might know, i opted for a pair of 19" digital 8ms lcd's recently...

the first was DOA, the second just died today. backlight went out, so i can see the screen, but barely.

problem is i'm STILL waiting for the "advanced" replacement of the DOA unit. now i get to add another "advanced" replacement.

i have to wonder how many dead units they are shipping, since the official support location is out of stock. that's why the first hasn't been replaced yet.

soon to be on ebay, 2 hyndai lcd's.

all i can say is THANK GOD i didn't sell my 22" crt.

sux dude, though i thought it was ironic that a day after reading the review for 8ms LCD's over @ tomshardware that viewsonic announced their own 4ms LCD's

i wonder if i can hold out till they have flexable translucent LCD's - that would really make laptops a more flexable options for people; if they could only solve the power problem on laptops we'd all be set as a mobile society suffering from NAS

email today, the replacements are due in chicago tomorrow (thursday) and tech support waived the need for proof of purchase and other info and is simply going to ship me 2.

they also agreed to pay for a pickup of BOTH dead ones even thought the second wasn't DOA.

so far, they've kept me calm....relatively anyway.

however, after hooking back up my sony crt, i'm not so sure gaming on an 8ms lcd is much better than a 25ms.

could just be that this sony crt ROCKS!!!

new info...

turns out my second is just moody. the contrast won't "save" and resets to zero on occation which is why the brightness has no effect.

still going to get it replaced, something is wrong either way...but at least it works for now.

roger (been a long time buddy), check out the 4ms units from viewsonic if you'd like.

as for the hyundai's, they use samsung panels just like the infamous dells, but i think it's the added electronics that are not up to par.

haha - samsung panels

when i got my dell d800
there was news that they were using 2 different LCD's - samsung (that had problems w/ ghosting and backlighting problems) and sharp, which i was lucky enough to get

the only problem is that since this was still the first generation of 1920x1200 LCD's that are 13" wide x 8 1/4" high (15.4 diagonal 16:10 ratio)
now remember that the apple cinema display thats 23" and 16:9 ratio is also a 1920x1200 res
thats the same res display on almost 150% larger display (150% less pixel density)

well the reason i started all this number computation is that my LCD has always been dimmer than many of the other LCD's on other laptops that people have in studio. even someone who has the same laptop and has the lower density LCD (1440x1080 i think) has a disernable brighter screen.

guess thats what i get for getting the bleeding edge hardware...

I'll look at the Viewsonics... Thanks for the tip. I'm also looking at some 30" TFT TV/monitors for a multimedia system. Can't surf the net on a 27" CRT TV, Just way too fuzzy.
Know of any good deals on the 30"ers??

Just a quick question do the hyundia 17inch panel suffer from the poor workmanship aswell? the reason i ask as i was thinking at getting a 17in LCD for my second monitor as they are hell cheap here (under $300AU)
cheers :) :)

i'd stay away, here's why...

got an email on wed. saying replacements were due thursday....FINALLY. well, called today since they sent a pickup for the DOA model (still waiting for a replacement) and was told perhaps next week they will have one for me.

i told them my email stated that replacements were due thursday and was told they DID come in....and are all gone. i asked how many, they said....

50 forkin' units. i'm still farther down the list than the first 50.

unforking believable. DON'T BUY A HYUNDAI!!!!!

Don't blame you going for the full refund, last thing you want is another two screens and having something happen like this 3-6 months down the line and having to go through this crap again.

Not wanting to sound like an @$$ but I'm VERY satisfied with my Samsung 915N.
I can honestly say I've never had a better monitor. NO dead pixels, fade outs, ghosting or anything...way fast 8ms rT and The colors are great. I do not have quite the discerning eye Lothodon has though...worth checking out reviews for any way though...

By all means...take Lothodons advice though...he won't steer you wrong !

hrm, well any analog tv (non-hdtv) unless you are @ 640x480 or 800x600 regardless of the connector, its gonna look like sh1t

now i havent personally connected a pc via vga/dvi/s-vid/component yet - but two of my friends have 30" Apex LCD & 52" Panasonic projection LCD respectively
now, the room that the guy has the 30" is huge (40x30ft room) and it just looks SMALL; but then again, im currently watching a dvd on a 32" standard flat tube analog TV from 6' away and its just about right - maybe a bit small since its a widescreen dvd (would you have it any other way) w/ the black bars and all. the other guy that has the 52" the room is like 20x15 and its fuxking MASSIVE. now i was only able to watch a dvd (boondock saints) on the 52" but the dvd wasnt in Progressive Scan (iirc that makes it better) though when the 52" was changed to the DVD input (through component video) it said that it was doing 480i (so it might be doing it inherently, i havent had time to research it - ill do that in the middle of May when i get back home from school)

i would say that the LCD does look better of the projection (but only barely, as i normally see the LCD in daylighting conditions with white painted walls; verses the 52" projection LCD in night time w/ next to no lights in the room and dark wall paint)

oh well, heres to hoping that the industry gets off their a$$es and release the LED lit LCD projectors - so we can get some HD-LCD super bright projectors that dont heat up and require multiple 120mm fans to keep cool

perhaps the rma process, should you need it, is better in your country. i sure hope you don't have to find out.

to keep this updated, and i'm bored....

finally got the replacement for the DOA lcd the other day. what a treat it is to have duals again. perfectly matched monitors make it even better.

here's the part that gets interesting. they delivered ANOTHER lcd the next day. not entirely sure why yet.

so i've now got 3 fully functional lcds. they either messed up and sent two to replace the doa unit or shipped a replacement for the contrast bug unit without informing me that they accepted the rma.

have to wait and see now, but it's sure nice to have my duals after all this time...
