View Full Version : Improve your Broadband Speed!!
Team,
Broadband internet users can significantly speed up downloads. As it turns out, Windows XP Professional (which this tweak requires, by the way) allocates only 20 percent of the available bandwidth to your internet connection.
By opening gpedit.msc --->Computer Configuration ---> Administrative Templates ---> Network---> QoS Packet Scheduler and setting the Limit Reservable Bandwidth setting to "enabled" and the limit to "0%," you can squeeze additional download speed from your connection.
gpedit.msc can be accessed by going to start--->run-->enter gpedit.msc---> click ok
I hope this is helpful.

doesn't look like it's limited to 20% unless it's enabled first however.
Loth,
By default it's set to 20%. There should be a description on the left side in the Qos Packet Scheduler that tells you this.

but as "default" it's set to not configured and has to be enabled for the 20% limit to kick in.
you could just as well set it to disabled as well as setting the limit to 0%.

I remember reading about this a while back, M$ in all their wisdom thought it would be good to allocate some spare bandwidth (20%) to nothing but critical updates that the local network administrator has sent out. I always though it allocated 20% of your total NIC bandwidth so if you have a 100mbit NIC then it would allocate 20mbit of bandwidth to network updates (hence not impacting on your actual internet connection) but i could be wrong, please correct me if you like.
BTW you can also uninstall the QoS shedular completly under network connections, then right click on your NIC and goto properties, the QoS shedular shows up in there, simply highlight it and click uninstall and voila :)
cheers :) :)

though i didnt reboot between setting adjustments
though i do have QoS un-checked on all my network devices, if that would have any bearing on anything
