As most of you probbaly know the site has been down for the last few days due to billing issues.
This has been temporarily resolved, i have just paid for one month hosting so we have the chance to make backups of the site/forum data, and also regroup as to what we shall do regarding the future of the site for the next year, we have some plans that'll hopefully be shared with you all very soon.

Thanks for mentioning this guys, we are going to be having a fund raiser.
We are changing host, to host that offers considerably more storage and transdfer, and from Joe's experience with them they are a lot faster.
The price is also VERY nice, we will post the info later w/paypal acc details etc.

With the switch over to the new host we will have a lot more webspace to work with and a ton more bandwidth, just to mention a few of the advantages.... it's just going to give us more stuff to work with to bring you guys a better site. I've been with them for almost a year now and have no problems. Trust me, after the poor service we've had with our current host, I wouldn't be recommending the new one unless they were great.

Glad to see that the site will continue. Was kind of weird not being able to check in the last couple days.
Nasty, I read your post over at The Shack, and I think you maybe misinterpeted the concern over the site for a eulogy. I for one never meant my comments to mean that.
You and the staff should feel proud of what you have here. No matter how busy get, I try to make it in at least a couple of times a week, or stop in for a quick look during lunch at work.
I recently let a membeership to another board lapse, not because of lack of interest, but because I just could not devote the time that they expected of thier members, They seemd to be more interested in post count than quality of posts.
I only post if I have something that I think is relevant to say, but that dosen't mean that I don't care about this site.
I was a lurker for the longest time, didn't check the site for a year once, and never had to re-register. When I finally made my first post you all jumped in to help with my XP problem.
We have a bunch of good people here and i hope that this site continues for a good long time.
p.s,. Pass the hat. i'm in.

even if i tried to explain to you how much seeing posts like that means to me I don't think I could get anyone to understand it.
OE is my baby man....i've been with her 5 years now...i started it on an EZBOARD for goodness sakes. I miss the shit out of the members that have moved on, but love the core group that are here now. A lot of work goes into this place...Joe Louie was up till 530 in the am patching the latest security fixes the day the host screwed us. I don't thank the admins and the mods and more importantly the members for taking time out of their days to come here.
All i can say is I've been looking at some of the posibilities the new hosting will open up for us, including the jump to a much better forum software...i've been playing with a demo of it, and it's lightning fast, and does most of the things we want it to do without spending hours and hours and hours modding it. Only problem is that it's a paid forum software, unlike phpBB, and it makes phpBB look like a playground toy.
If we get enough in donations we'll be making thw switch over. We can't offer a whole whole lot for donating members but we WILL do something to recognize them rather than just thank them in a post as has been done in the past. You know, all the great memebers here have donated enough to keep this place afloat, and I won't name names, but i was told"good luck getting enough money to try to cover hosting this year-I doubt you'll get it" but a FORMER person who will remain unnamed, I haven't spoken with the person since, as I think of all you guys as a family, and know that we'll see some paypaling going on.
I don't want to see OE/CDRETC go anywhere...I DO want to see it get better. We're going to bring back memeber of the month, monthly photo contests and things like that. we had a doom3 for free contest last year and it was a lot of fun, i want to do that again, and possibly with something bigger and better this time....there are lots of things we're going to bring you, and hey lets face it..I can't go any time without this place, it's my home.
Also, a question at this turning point....most of us LOVE the www.optical-edge.net URL...but would you want us to keep that or switch back just to cdretc.com(which still works btw) or is there another name you'd like to see. THis is YOUR site. give us some input.
If there are things you'd like to see here at oe, PLEASE tell us.
Official Paypal donation thread soon to come.(i don't want to spend another minute on this piece of shit host)
Whew :!:
Dam I was going through withdrawl... like a Junkie lookin' for a Fix
When I get home from work I almost always check out The Edge to see what's happening. And when I couldn't it left a big hole in my day. Glad we're back on line.
Thanks Nasty and Joe L. and and and....

Nasty, I say go back to cdretc. I like the news about the new site, I have notice in the mornings (like now) the site is real s-l-o-w. I guess they have the bandwith going somewhere else. But after 7am or so, it's back up to speed! Anyway, the new site sounds great. Thanks Nasty for taking the time to don't this. 8)
I can not express how glad I am to see you guys up and that you plan to stay up! This is one of the best sites out here! Would be a great loss to not have you around anymore! Thanks for all the hard work.............
